In the tradition of a satsang or Buddhist sitting group, a public sitting with Emily Carson is part spiritual teaching, part question and answer, and part gathering in an atmosphere of receptivity, contemplation and a shared longing for truth.Sittings begin with a brief opening teaching which may take the form of a dharma talk, a guided meditation, or even a prayer.Attendees are then invited—though never required—to ask a question of Emily’s guidance. These may arise from the evening’s talk or from any personal or spiritual concern; the answers most always have a universal application, relevant to all.
Emily holds public sittings on a quarterly basis in Portland, Oregon, and is offering one in San Francisco, California, in February, 2012.No pre-registration is required for these events, and the cost is on a sliding scale, $10-30.The sittings are always recorded and transcribed (questions posed are strictly anonymous) and all participants receive emailed transcripts within ten days after the event.Note:These transcripts are included among those distributed as part of The Sound of Rain’s subscription service.
Join us in celebrating the release of SOMETHING MAKES ME OPEN MY EYES: Meditations on Transcendence, a book of talks by Emily Carson with paintings by Joyln Fry.At this special event, Emily held a short half-hour sitting, followed by refreshments, book signing by both Emily and Jolyn, and an informal gathering. The Portland area event was held on February 3rd, 2012.
